The main purpose of our service is to strengthen Ethnic Minority organizations so that they can meet all the necessary statutory requirements and improve their performance through increased efficiency, effectiveness and economic utilization of resources available. We primarily analyze the existing organizational situation and develop plans for potential improvements.

Our services aim to achieve the following things.

  • Supporting small charities to meet the basic financial reporting requirements
  • Training volunteers to increase their efficiency and effectiveness while performing charitable work
  • Helping charities to deliver projects within their economic constraints
  • Creating good financial practices awareness among the small charities
  • Demonstrating the benefits of fresh ideas and technical support at board level.

Research and Development

Conducts community-based research that led to better understanding of the community needs. This is followed by development of cutting-edge solutions that address issues from the findings. Suggested solutions are delivered and implemented according to organizations’ specific projects need, with aim of improving charity performance.

The focus is to enhance charities’ performance and strengthen corporate governance. Hence, we apply practical professional approach and current industrial knowledge in solving the identified problems.

Research can be either commissioned by a client or internally initiated. EMRC will partner with renowned business schools in Scotland to deliver best- and well-balanced findings.

Project Management

After research findings, EMRC will be able to fully or partly implement the findings by using modern project management methodologies. Project management team is not limited to findings gathered by EMRC only but can also implement any research findings, well and thoughtfully analysed by another researcher or clients themselves.

Accounting and book-keeping services

This is designed to help small organizations with preparations of Receipts and Payments, Statement of Balances and the notes to the accounts. The service also accommodates fully accrued accounts. The service is delivered by EMRC trained team of volunteers at the centre for small charities that can’t afford to house their own accounts team or hire professional firms.

Auditing and Independent Examination of Accounts

Both Independent examination and statutory audits are carried out to meet charities’ needs. EMRC make sure that charities’ expectations are meet by providing and maintaining a high-quality service. This benefits small charities but also provides EMRC with an opportunity to add economic value to the community.

Taxation services

This includes preparation of Gift Aid Claims, VAT Returns for charitable companies, and dealing with all HMRC charitable tax issues.

Business Advisory Services

Include business analysis, i.e. Strategic analysis (feasibility studies), Strategic choice and strategy implementations. EMRC not only provide classic strategic analysis but also cascade the analysis to the operational level to help with practical implementation of our recommendations.  

This area will enable community entities to realize their potential, efficiently utilize their resources and effectively achieve their objectives.

Community Capacity Building

EMRC partners with other voluntary organisations with teams of volunteers who provide training in areas of accounting, finance management, IT, project management, managing change and organizational leadership. This kind of training is ongoing for all small charities, this is part of the follow-up upon other services already provided.

Internship

There is high preference in placing students who need practical experience in the areas of accounting, auditing, taxation, project management, IT and so forth, depending on the demand from the market especially the charitable sector.

– Training for Volunteer Accountants, book – keepers and Treasurers is made to equip them with skills and experience that will make them efficient and effective so that they can add value in the community and easily pave their way into the labour market.

Training will be designed and delivered by the following institutions: ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA, ICAS, AAT, ACIE, OSCR, SAGE and others relevant in the third sector and necessary for community development.

Our training program prepare volunteers to get ready for the job market, by introducing and guiding them through various connection with potential employers who will be involved in delivering the training program, social events, networking and Job search.

EMRC also partners with employers and recruitment agents in different industries, such as retail, financial services and professional services such as Accountancy, Law and Health Sector. As a result, many of these programs are run by employers themselves.

We aim to increase volunteers’ employability by increasing their competence and practical experience; benefits will include volunteers getting direct connection with employers during their voluntary training.
